This modern-day protestor was originally conceived as a gift to Extinction Rebellion in 2019 and projected onto the British Parliament buildings. Hewlett wanted to direct attention to what it takes to be a protestor right now, coming up against aggression and tear gas. Created pre covid, her face mask eerily prefigures life in the street during the pandemic. Her cracked goggles link her to Tank Girl and the need for self protection to endure life’s battles.
